I got my first glimpse of Emirates Airline when I watched Jennifer Aniston’s commercial. It was the one where Aniston had a nightmare about being on a plane without a shower or a lounge, and then she woke up in her bed on the Emirates flight. I didn’t remember that commercial until my step-mom told me that we were flying Emirates for our trip to South Africa.
Emirates is the nicest flying experience I’ve ever come across. An Emirates car picked us up from our apartment in La Jolla and drove us to LAX. We flew business class and I had a window seat, for my flight to Dubai from Los Angeles.
After first sitting down, a stewardess came down the aisle offering champagne, orange juice, or apple juice. I took the glass of champagne as she explained the logistics of the flight and my seat. There were three stickers given, which indicated whether I would want to be woken up for meals or for duty free purchases or not, and I would just put the correct sticker on my seat.
I was also given a BVLGARI toiletry bag for the flight. I thought they were trying to get me to buy it, because I figured what airline would give our BVLGARI products. It had perfume, body lotion, face lotion, tissues, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. I also got an eye-mask and socks, but I used my own.
Another stewardess came around with hot towels, and soon after we took off, she came back with more drinks. My step-mom pre-requested that I have a lactose-free meal, so I didn’t have to look at the menu and choose my courses. The food was better than most airlines, but nothing to rave about. I had a lot of fish and lentils. I was not used to an appetizer and a main course, though.
The entertainment system, “ice,” had a great selection of movies. I watched Thelma & Louise, The English Patient, Me Before You, War Dogs, and other recent releases. It was so nice to put my seat back and watch a movie comfortably. The seats were out of this world. It was the number one thing justifying the amount of money for this plane ticket. I had never been on a flight where my seat would turn into a bed. The flight attendant brought a mattress pad, when people were going to bed, and it was heavenly.
Since we had an overnight layover in Dubai, Emirates put us up in a nice hotel for the night, and I got my own room. We then got picked up by an Emirates car to go back to the airport. We flew from Dubai to South Africa, and after our vacation we flew back to Dubai on Emirates to spend a few days there. I saw my friend Julia, who lives there, which was a nice break from being with my dad and step-mom 24/7. Then I took a separate flight back to JFK, while they flew to LAX. One of the best perks about flying business class on Emirates was that my luggage was already sitting out at JFK and my step-mother had booked a ride from the airport to my apartment. I always dread waiting in the taxi line outside in winter, but I didn’t have to lift a finger this time.
If you can, fly Emirates at least once. My dad and step-mom were upgraded to first class, and I don’t even want to know how great their flight was back to Los Angeles.
